Bringing Unity To The Community!

"Providing unified Christian leadership to the Muncie, Indiana community, regardless of race, color, creed, sex, or religion."

To Muncie / Delaware County Community,

Our hearts are entirely broken as we process the devastating news of the murder of Christopher Wilson Jr. this past Monday, who has been a standout student athlete at Yorktown High School.

There are simply no human words adequate enough to make sense of this sudden, horrific act of violence in our community. Right now, we share a collective sense of shock, anger, and deep pain for his family.

As faith leaders across Muncie / Delaware County we lift our voices in prayer and unyielding solidarity following the senseless murder. We the CCOM will not become numb to the scourge of violence claiming the lives of our children. Our faith calls us to declare the answer and not be passive observers. We will and must actively speak life where fear speaks death.

The death of any young person is tragic, but a violent death is even more difficult. It is hard to teach our children about the violence in our world and how sometimes we do not have the power to prevent it.  Shootings create trauma for the family directly involved and for everyone in surrounding neighborhoods and communities.

As Gun violence continues to increase in our community there are no simple solutions or quick fixes, but we are not useless and and not without faith and will continue to contribute helping our youth in as many ways as possible.

Tonight we ask that you check on your family, ask how your kids are feeling? Start by asking and then actually stop to listen. Don’t let an “I’m fine”  keep you from following up. Young people frequently turn to social media to see what others are saying, or to find out more. At these times it is important that you monitor their use and engage with them about what they read.

The CCOM is here to help those individuals who are affected, by connecting you to licensed grief counselors and/or our pastoral teams from within the CCOM.

We ask that all citizens engage with those groups and programs in our community that are involved with gun prevention.

Committed to the Call,

Pastor Kevin D. Woodgett

CCOM President
